Verified Reviewer | Salisbury, PennsylvaniaTERRIBLE SERVICE, adds costs to your bill w/out your knowledge and extends your contract w/out your approvalithout your knowledge
I signed up with Hughes 4/12/22 (satellite dish service for internet). Their service sucked because I am in the mountains of N Idaho...so I got Starlink which works beautifully.
Since I had a 2 yr contract with Hughes, I asked if I could move it to a different location and they said yes. I asked specifically when my contract was done and they said 4/12/24. I moved the service to a different address and was looking forward to the end of the contract. One day, 2 months ago, when reviewing my monthly bills online (which were paid automatically and normally I didn't even see a bill) I noticed I was being charged for $5.99 monthly for Norton and $12.99 monthly for Express Repair Premium.
I never signed up for these charges, so I called and got them removed from my bill.
Then I noticed that Hughes had added an extra year to my contract just because I moved the service to a different address!
This fact is NOT stated in the contract I have with Hughes, and I have a case # which I obtained from the rep to whom I spoke when I moved service (which I paid extra to move to a different address) who said that my contract term would remain the same and end on 4/12/24.
Now I am battling with Hughes to end my contract on the date we had agreed.
Never use HUGHES. They are terrible service and poor customer service
- Service tech who worked for hughes is a nice guy
- Adds charges to your bill without your knowledge
- Terrible internet service
- Adds another year to contract even though rep said they would not

Verified Reviewer | Wilson, North CarolinaThe product, customer service and value are all disappointing
When talking with the provider, I was promised 25mg of internet service which in our area is good. After installation, I found the more I used the internet the slower it became.
Constant streaming, slower loading, and if it was raining hard or windy, the service went in and out. Although the quoted price was comparable to others, the lack of product quality made it overpriced. I shut down Hughes net and went with a trial period of DSL to compare the products.
To my surprise, DSL @ 5 mg was just as fast as Hughes net and more consistent. The price of DSL was essentially the same, the quality was better thus being a better value for the $$.
- Poor connectivity customer service
- Poor value

Verified Reviewer | Brookings, South DakotaFailure of Service Representative to Provide Evidence and Proper Assistance
On May 10th, 2022, (service reference 14568****) we contacted Hughes Network to cancel service as we had sold the property associated with the service. They claim we suspended the service.
Why would we suspend service when we were selling the property. As of today, (service reference 14980****) they finally canceled the service and I was informed there would be a $0 balance on the account and no charges since May 10th. So far, so good. I was then informed we have leased equipment which must be returned.
When Hughes connected the service, the installed the equipment. I tried to explain that we have no equipment (the antenna is still on the roof, but that is not our responsibility).
The representative was persistent in telling me we had leased equipment to return despite my insistence to the contrary. Hughes Network may work fine in isolated areas, but I recommend them as an absolutely last and only resort.
User's recommendation: Avoid Hughes Network unless it is your last resort!

We can not watch any tv witout it buffering every 2 seconds.
I have had a bad picture ever since we had it connected. No matter what show or channel you try to watch all you get is buffering every 2 seconds.
It takes 2 hours to watch a half hour show. I have called several times without any good or lasting results. My family and I are so sick and tired of paying for TV that we can not watch, we are totally sick of it. Either HughesNet fixes the problem or get their equipment off my property, and I will sue them for miss representation.
I could even contact all these other unsatisfied customers, and we could start a class action law suit. Oh, by the way now when I call customer service, it answers "no reps found"
- Are a total scam
- Extremely low data limits
- Customer service
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
User's recommendation: Do not go for HughesNet, you won't be a happy customer

Verified ReviewerHughesNet Service and Support ... really bad service at maximum price
I have been a customer of HughesNet satellite internet service since 2015 having purchased my own equipment. Over the course of four years, internet connectivity and transmission speeds have degraded to the point where downloads are deathly slow; all the while HughesNet degrades the service provisions and escalates service charges.
In August 2019, I had had enough when clocked download speeds approached an intolerable level between 10-25 KBps while the service claim states download speeds of 15 MBps, roughly a thousand times higher than what I am really getting.
I was so annoyed, that I followed up with a customer survey that placed my opinion of HughesNet in the toilet.
A HughesNet service rep called me and proceded to give me a sales job for new equipment that clearly would have no impact on upload or download speeds. Later another rep called asking if the could schedule a day to troubleshoot the issue(s). They never returned the call that was supposed to the following day. So I sat all day expecting a call that never came.
Advance the clock three weeks!
Another service rep calls about my review and I quickly explained tha I am very annoyed over a service call that was supposed to be made three weeks earlier and that never happened, since I was on the road at the time, I said that I could not be home to work on the troubleshooting call until the next day, 6 Sep 2019. He said the would call the next day. Again, I am here the entire day and HughesNet fails to call again.
At this point, I am extremely aggravated with HughesNet.
This is a rural area with no other internet service available so the customer is at the mercy of HughesNet and their extremely poor internet and customer service. These people are legalized extortionists charging phenomenal prices for the least amount of data transfer and the absolute poorest customer support.
- Very expensive compared to traditional cable internet
- Extremely low data limits
- Extremely poor customer service and follow through
Preferred solution: Deliver product or service ordered
Charged us $471 for sending repairman out, we bought the insurance previously and followed all the rules. Called them to complain, still nothing has changed.
